NWMGA Team Match - Week 9 Stand Away

Thursday of this week seen us make the short trip to Radcliffe to play Stand GC. We sat proudly on top of the league, after our last win, and are there to be shot at. It wasn't a great week for team selection with a lot not available for one reason or another and changes had to be made up to and including on the Thursday, but that is mine and Gaz's problem and we would hope to always pick as strong a side as possible and one that would get us the target when away, of 3 points. Thanks to the Captain of the BDGA Team, Bob for his co-operation this week in particular......................So lets see what Thursday brought us.

Match / Player Report

John Eaton
John Eaton
First out on the Night was John, who got 3 shots. Unfortunately John Struggled off the Tee, however it was good to see his spirit had not been taken away after the game - he took the banter off one or two of the lads - Thanks though John - unfortunately the 3n2 defeat gets you the 🪓🪓🪓🪓 - Played 2 Lost 2
Steve 'Nutty' Nuttall
Steve 'Nutty' Nuttall
Nutty was making his long awaited return to the Team, after a couple of years in the wilderness. No shots received or given in the match and even though Nutty fought, he eventually lost 3n2 and another who receives the 🪓🪓🪓🪓 - He was last seen heading back to the wilderness - Played 1 Lost 1
Colin 'Cosmo' Stephenson
Colin 'Cosmo' Stephenson
Due to a late change in the team, Cosmo was promoted to the Number 1 spot in the High Men and received 2 shots. When catching up with him on the 5th, he was already 4 up, and that was the story through most of his match - and he eventually won his Game 3n2 and maintained his unbeaten run in the league👏👏👏👏 - Played 6 Won 5 Drawn 1
Tony 'Colonel Tom' Parker
Tony 'Colonel Tom' Parker
The Colonel was drafted in to the team (Fresh from winning the Jackpot of £1750 in the Joker draw) and played against an ex Bury Member in Young Michael Moores (His Dad would probably be better known to a few - Aidy Moores who was at Bury for a number of years) Another scratch match and unfortunately for the Colonel his younger opponent hit him with a couple of birdies in the latter holes and he lost 4n3 🪓🪓🪓🪓🪓 - Played 2 Lost 2
Andy Hall
Andy Hall
Andy was also moved up the pecking order and received 5 shots from his opponent, which i would have put my house on him winning, especially with his away form this year, winning 3 of his 4 games on away soil - However sometimes you get 5 shots from your opponent for a reason, and under andys own admission his opponent was a much better golfer, as he lost 3n2 🪓🪓🪓🪓🪓 - Played 7 Won 4 Lost 3
Gaz Hall
Gaz Hall
Gaz Took to the course in a scratch match and was hoping to maintain the brilliant form he has had in the Team. I didn't see much of Gaz on the course, except on the 8th where he was 2 down, the next time i seen him was on the 12th and the game was then level - Gaz then kicked in to gear as he won 3n1 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 Record now is played 6 Won 6 - and sits Proudly on top of the OOM with 21 Points.
Si Daniels
Si Daniels
The Grease Monkey took up the Number 1 spot in the team again and was getting the 1 shot of his opponent. I caught up with him on the long Par 3 6th hole by which time he was 2 up. The next time i seen him he was walking in after another 4n3 Victory 👏👏👏👏👏👏 - Played 6 won 5 Drawn 1
Markham 'Morecambe' Bullard
Markham 'Morecambe' Bullard
Morecambe played in a strange game in what was his first defeat of the season to their Captain Mick Anderson, despite getting 3 shots. He lost some early holes but clawed his way back into the Game and went 1 up on the 11th - as most of us gathered on the decking at the back of the 18th Green we eventually seen the pair walking in and Morecambe had succumb to a 3n2 Defeat - Played 5 Won 3 Drawn 1 Lost 1

So a 5-3 Defeat in the end, which at 1 point during the walk round, seemed like it may be 6-2 0r 7-1 - But the lads dug in and ground out a very respectful 3 points away from home. This now puts us joint top of the league with Whitefield (last years Champions) and a place we shall visit in out next away game, but before then we have a massive game at home to prestwich on Wednesday. Unfortunately I am at a Funeral late in the afternoon, so will not be able to do a report on the course.
