NWMGA Team Match - Week 7 Worsley Away

The First half of the season came to a close at Worsley, which is always a nice Course to play at anytime during the Season, and it did look in great condition, However they have had recent issues with irrigation, and work was being carried out on all Tees and Greens (Not that you would notice), and some of the lads said how difficult it was to keep the ball on the green if coming in from any distance - But same for both players. Flanny and Morecambe played their first away games of the season and they would need to play well in order to keep their unbeaten start to the season going. Fellow Team Capt Gaz was also looking to make it 4 wins out of 4, and Cosmo looking to maintain his unbeaten start as well, The story unfolds below...........................

Match / Player Report

Colin Stephenson
Colin Stephenson
Cosmo - On a Track that he likes, (Having won the NWMGA pairs here with Myself on his 40th Wedding Anniversary, which he spent most of that day with me) going out first and receiving 2 shots. We never really caught up with him until the Stroke 1 14th, which he won to go 4 up. As we stood by the 15th Green he just casually rolled in a 20ft Putt for a Birdie and a Great 5n3 victory - Keeping his Unbeaten start to the season going - Well Done Cosmo 👏👏👏👏
Markham Bullard
Markham Bullard
Morecambe was making Playing his First away game for the team, having won his 2 Home games - He was receiving 3 shots from his opponent. He was down for most of his game, but a crucial point in the game was when his opponent missed a 3 foot put on 15 to go 3 Up, and Morecambe rolled in his Putt to stay in the game, 2 down with 3 to play. I stayed at the junction of the 12th Tee / 15th Green to wait for some other games to pass - and news came back from the 18th Morecambe had won 2 of the next 3 holes to record a Brilliant Halve in his match, and again maintain the Unbeaten Record - Well Done Morecambe 👏👏👏👏👏
Dave Richradson
Dave Richradson
Richie Started like a House on Fire in his Game receiving 4 shots from his opponent, (who had allegedly been a +1 golfer but was now on 3.8) and went 3 up early doors, but his opponent fought back and they walked off the 9th All Square. On the 15th Richie pitches his 3rd to about 3 foot, whilst his opponent is about 25feet away in 3 - However he sinks the putt and all of a sudden the Hole which looked like a Canyon, now shrunk to a pin head, however Richie held his nerve and sank the Putt - and Eventually went on to win 3n1 - Well Done Pal 👏👏👏👏👏
Dave Flanagan
Dave Flanagan
Flanny making his away debut like Markham, had a late change of opponent and was going to receive 2 shots, and had an awful start to his game going 3 down early doors. True fighting spirit from Flanny and he dragged himself back into the game winning 7, 8 and 9 and stood A/S on the 10th. By the time he had played 15 Flanny was 2 up with 3 to play, and News filtered back he had won 2 Up - Great comeback that Flanny, and I wont mention the chip on 15 - 4 Wins out of 4 Mate allow you to hit at least one bad shot when you want - 👏👏👏👏👏
Gaz Hall
Gaz Hall
Gaz (Getting 2 shots) played an old stager for Worsley, Dave Wright - Gaz was another making a bad start and was 2 down after 6. The next time Gaz popped into veiw was as he walked off 15, and was 2 up. I walked in with Him and he duly won 16 for a fine 3n2 Victory making it 4 wins out of 4 and sitting proudly at the Top of the OOM on 14 points. Well done Gaz, Leading the team by example on the Course 👏👏👏👏👏
Ross Speight
Ross Speight
Ross (Getting an amazing 7 shots) was up against a young +2 golfer, who was also long off the Tee, driving it through the green on the 300yrd 7th Hole. Ross was always in control of the game during the early stages, being as much as 3 up, however his opponent played some sterling Golf and they Eventually ended up with a Halved Match, as Ross lipped out on 18 for the Win - Another Positive Result for the Team 👏👏👏
Andy Hall
Andy Hall
Andy, playing the course for the first time and receiving 4 shots, was obviously in a hurry as he totally demolished his opponent 7n6. Hopefully he never destroyed the Young lads confidence with Such a beating. Andy recorded his 3rd victory out of 4 away from Home and its a pity you don't get extra points for such large wins - However its another point in the Bag for the team - Well Done Andy 👏👏👏👏
Steve Hamer
Steve Hamer
Steve Was last out as he waited patiently for their team Captain, Nick Stokes to turn up, which he did in his usual crash bang wallop style and the Ran on to the first tee. Steve was receiving 5 shots on the Night, But Stokesy started the game in a positive manner by going through the Green in 2 on the First Hole - and that seemed to set the Pattern of the game. Unfortunately as this was a little behind the games in front, we never had much of an update on the game until the 12th, when both shared an equal amount of luck, by hooking into the trees off the Tee, and bouncing back in to the Fairway. Steve eventually lost 2 Down and became the only Victim of the 🪓 on the Night.

So an emphatic 6-2 Victory away from Home maintained our good start to the first half of the season - reaching 31.5 points at an average return of 4.5 Points a Game. Last year Whitefield won the League with 73.5 points (Average 5.25) - 2022 and 2021 Champions Rochdale won it with 65 and 70 points respectively (Average of 4.64 and 5), so we are not far off that pace. Looking forward to next Week already as we enter into the 2nd half of the season with the Return Fixture against Ellesmere at Home. I shall contact you all individually regarding availability next Wednesday 3rd July.

Best Regards Kex
