NWMGA Team Match - Week 4, Home vs Whitefield GC

Good Day to you all - Well after last weeks Great result at Prestwich, we entertained the Reigning Champions Whitefield last night, in what was always going to be a tough match. Team selection was never going to be easy, after some really good wins in both last weeks games, especially on the High side, with 6 (It would have been 7 if Cosmo was not away) players in contention for 4 playing places and one on the Bench. Once the decision was made, it has to be said the attitude of the 2 who missed out was more than commendable, despite their disappointment. The Low men was a lot easier, with the Double board winner Ross, not even getting on the Bench after losing his last 2 games.

Match / Player Report

Alan 'Les' Battersby
Alan 'Les' Battersby
Ummmmmm - Well after his euphoria in Week 2 of winning, week 4 brought Les back down to earth like a comet, but with more of a 'Phuutttt' than a Trail blazing wonder usually associated with Comets - Getting 3 shots he was given 3 new bottoms on his way to losing 6n5🪓🪓🪓🪓
Markham 'Morecambe' Bullard
Markham 'Morecambe' Bullard
Making his Debut for the NWMGA and playing in a scratch match, Morecambe went into an early lead of 4up after 5 - he never really looked back. I caught up with him again on the 15th Hole, and he was 2 up - but missed a 3ft Putt for Par leaving his opponent needing to knock his 30" putt in to reduce the deficit to being 1 down - fortunately he missed it, and Markham eventually won 2 up with a Birdie on the last - Well done Morecambe 👏👏👏👏👏
Steve 'Hammer' Hamer
Steve 'Hammer' Hamer
Hammer was getting 3 shots in his match against his straight hitting opponent and was quickly chasing his tail in the game, and was always down from the 1st Hole. In his last 2 matches he had rescued a draw and a win on the back 9 after being down stood on the 10th tee - Unfortunately, it was not to be the same this week as he eventually lost 4n3 on 15. 🪓🪓🪓🪓
Dave 'Richie' Richardson
Dave 'Richie' Richardson
Another making his debut for the NWMGA team, receiving 1 shot, Richie soon got into his stride, and was 2 up after 5. Which quickly moved to being 4 up after 10 - with his game eventually finishing on the 13th and a great win 6n5 on debut - Well Done Richie 👏👏👏👏👏
Dave 'Flanny' Flanagan
Dave 'Flanny' Flanagan
The Ginger Wizard was also receiving 1 shot in his game, and started off like a house on fire, 4 up after 5. At the turn he was 3 up and stood on the 11th he gave his opponent a slight chance when driving in to the Trees left of the Tee, whilst his opponent found the middle of the fairway with 150 to the Green, Flanny found his ball, knocked it well up the fairway, and his opponent pulled it left into the yard, Flanny 4 up. He eventually made it 2 wins from 2 with a 3n2 victory 👏👏👏👏👏
Gaz Hall
Gaz Hall
Fellow Team Captain Gaz was playing his 2nd game of the season and receiving 5 shots at home and was a banker for a point - and he never looked like losing even though he had a 'Hackers Delight' on 15, he eventually won 3n2 on 16 to make it 2 wins out of 2 and leading by example. 👏👏👏👏👏
Si Daniels
Si Daniels
Si was again in the Number 1 slot playing their Best Player and giving him 2 shots. I did not witness to much of this match, but Si always seemed to be in Control of the match, whilst his opponent was having to chip in and sink 30 foot putts to stay in with a chance, but there is one sure thing about luck, it will always run out - and it did as Si won on 17 for a 2n1 victory and another to make it 2 wins out of 2. 👏👏👏👏👏
Kev 'The Machine' Simmons
Kev 'The Machine' Simmons
Last game out involved the machine for his first outing at home in the league. receiving 1 shot, he went 2 down very quickly after 3, and his status was seriously being tested by his opponent, but he knuckled down for the battle ahead and dragged himself level after 5 and stood on the 11th Tee was 2 up, however he had reckoned on his opponent making a come back, with the game eventually finishing on the 18th and the Machine made it 2 wins from 2 finishing 1 up. 👏👏👏👏👏

So a great 6-2 win was recorded over the reigning champions, in what proved to be very difficult windy conditions. Well done to both Richie and Morecambe on their wins on Debut and to the other Lads who won, and the 2 that did not - Your effort and Time is always appreciated. Thanks to Beth for looking after us with the Food, Thanks to Andy Hall and Raffa for their on the course support last night as well. Next week sees us away to Pike Fold on Wednesday 12th, Team will be selected over the coming days, although it mainly pick itself, but a couple are not available in the Low Section.
